Justin Kite

Justin Kite (Ngāti Kahungunu) is an artist whose work explores the space between abstraction and figuration, creating visually striking compositions defined by cool tones and layered superimpositions. His subject matter ranges across games, nature and relationships, brought together through carefully considered associations.

Central to his practice is the relationship between subject and formal elements, with each piece inviting the viewer to scan rather than decode. The intention is not to direct meaning, but to allow space for individual interpretation, encouraging viewers to see what they want to see.

Justin has lived, worked and taught Art and Design across Aotearoa, Europe, China, the USA and Australia. His practice includes public paintings and sculpture, design commissions, logo work and the publication of a children’s book. He has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows, including the New Zealand Art Show, Art in the Park, EAST Exhibition and the Hawke’s Bay Review.
