Ai-Lan discovered a passion for coloured pencil drawing just over three years ago, having previously explored graphite and watercolour. She now specialises in highly realistic animal portraits, capturing subjects such as dogs, cats, horses, birdlife and wildlife, with a particular affinity for African species.

Her artistic journey began as a way to unwind and step away from the pressures of everyday life, initially offering a quiet escape during her studies. Over time, her creative practice paused as she focused on work, family life and running a sheep and beef farm alongside her husband. In retirement, she has returned to drawing with renewed focus and enjoyment.

While her enduring fascination lies with big cats, her interests also extend to botanical subjects, reflecting her love of gardening.
