For more than fifty years, Penny has worked with clay, developing a lifelong practice shaped by patience, craftsmanship and continual learning. What began as a personal creative pursuit has evolved into both an artistic career and a passion for teaching, with recent years focused on sharing skills in wheel throwing, hand building, decorating and glazing.
Her early training as a draughtsman laid the foundation for the detailed decorative style and calligraphy that continue to define much of her work. This led to the creation of her wedding platters, pieces that have travelled to homes around the world.
A long-standing love of Art Deco, particularly its fashion and architecture, remains a strong influence throughout her practice. Illustrated figures, imagined hats and stylised outfits regularly appear across tiles, coasters and ceramic surfaces.
Alongside her award-winning ceramics, Penny has also embraced drawing and painting, continuing to challenge herself creatively beyond clay.
