Sarah Hargrave is a Hawke’s Bay-based artist and art teacher who has been teaching, painting and creating in Napier since 2005. She originally studied and exhibited in the UK, specialising in ceramics and glass.
Her work explores the connection between nature and design, expressed through bold colour, layered textures and rhythmic compositions that echo patterns found in the natural world. Inspired by the symmetry of nature and the ethereal qualities of wildlife, she creates stylised interpretations of flora and fauna.
Her recent practice spans painting and mixed media, embracing both 2D and 3D approaches and the space between them. This experimentation also informs her teaching, allowing her to explore a wide range of techniques and outcomes.
