Sheena Burton

Splitting her time between exhibiting in London and painting in the South Island of New Zealand, Sheena has developed a distinctive practice that balances bold expression with a deep connection to the natural world.

A fearless colourist, she works across drawing, printmaking and oil painting, embracing an evolving visual language shaped by the rhythms and cycles of life and nature. Her work is characterised by vibrant colour, creating tension, movement and energy within lush floral landscapes and, more recently, European-inspired themes. Moving between realism and abstraction, her paintings reflect the complexity of life itself and explore the relationship between humanity and the environment.

Environmental and social concerns underpin much of her work, driven by a belief in the importance of sustainability and a growing awareness of the impact of power and control on both people and the natural world.

After graduating with a degree in education, Sheena pursued a career in corporate banking in London and New York. Throughout that time, creativity remained a constant thread, spanning interests in textiles, product design and art history. Ultimately, painting became the enduring focus of her practice. Her artistic education followed a less conventional path, including study at the National Art School and ongoing painting studies at the New York Studio School, alongside decades of living and working throughout Europe.
